XWARN visit to NWS

A couple of years ago, XWARN members and friends visited the National Weather Service in Wilmington, OH., to tour the facilities, meet with some of the NWS personnel , see how the weather information is gathered and assimilated to the general public.

Below left, meteorologist Ryan Sandler explains usage of the main radar terminal to part of the XWARN group. At right, the giant soccer ball, NEXRAD radar antenna.

At bottom left, Paul Gehringer, WB8ZZR, talks about SKYWARN reporting in various areas in the state. At bottom right, meteorologist Myron Padgett explains the NOAA WX radio stations which broadcast weather forecasts and updates daily.

Meteorologist Mike Shratran talks about the weather balloons and how they are used to record information. A few minutes later the balloon is launched. Mike will then go back inside the NWS station to monitor and record it's data for the next few hours.
