Music Page
January 2001:
My interest in music began in grade school, when my parents encouraged me
to play clarinet. About the same time that I had decided that I did not want to
keep playing, my mom proudly told me that the family had gone ahead and bought
my clarinet instead of renting it. I cried almost all the way to the bus that
morning of the fifth grade!
Later in high school I played Tenor Sax in marching band, continuing with
the clarinet for concert band. After putting all instruments down for years; a
friend asked me to play clarinet in the church orchestra at Liberty Baptist
Church in Hampton, Virginia. I played there for 3 years and continued when the
Air Force moved me to Dayton, Ohio in 1994.
My interests have spread out. I now play flute, clarinet and two low brass instruments:
euphonium and tuba. At Patterson Park Church in Beavercreek, Ohio, I began by
playing clarinet for an additional 3 years. But I have mainly been playing Tuba
since 1997. It is fun to move from one instrument to another.
In 2001 I have taken up Bassoon for the church
orchestra. Beginning to learn again!
The greatest fun has been watching my children learn to play. My elder son,
now in college played tuba in high school. Our daughter, a senior, plays a mean
clarinet. And our youngest, in the 5th grade has interests in percussion,
guitar and trombone.
