This photo was taken from the plane approaching Montserrat. Montserrat is called "the emerald isle of the caribbean" because of its' similarity to Ireland. Unfortunately, due
to the ravages of the Suffrere Hills volcano, the island no longer has that lush green appearance shown here. I was amazed when I first heard the news reports a few years ago that this volcano had erupted. When we visited the island in 1988, the
volcano was just an offbeat tourist attraction, since it hadn't erupted in 400 years and was considered dead. |
