Saturday morning's project was to build a cheap 40M loop for the contest and to try to work the FR/T on 40. I found a salvage yard only a couple of miles from the house and bought 6 10'
sections of EMT conduit, some 3 strand doorbell wire and some electric fence insulators. I could only get the conduit to stand straight up to about 20' so I put this one near the house and put 3 10 foot supports to make a square. Didn't
get finished with this until 1800Z and didn't get on the air until 1830Z. Despite the low height, the antenna seemed to play real well on 40M as I had hours with over 60 QSO's and saw the rate meter go over 100. Also worked real well on
20. I managed to load it up with the tuner on 80, but only the loudest stations could hear me. Loading it up on 80 also caused lots of TVI and complaints from my wife who was trying to watch Iron Chef or something on the Food Network.
Total cost for the antenna and supports was about $25.
