Val moved to New Mexico
in January 2002 from Pennsylvania. She had had no contact of amateur radio
before she met Steve Friis later that year.
After moving to Las Cruces
in May of 2003, she started getting interested in radio because of Steve
being so into it. She got her license
in October 2003 through classes from the Mesilla Valley Radio Club. Val is a
full time student at Dona Ana
Branch Community College,
studying Business Office Technology with an Accounting Assistant.

Val enjoys doing community service through the radio club,
like the marathons.
She enjoys the fact that everyone she has met through
amateur radio is so nice and very helpful to those that are just starting
out. She is planning on studying for
and taking the General test in March, along with the Code exam.
