If "high-speed" meant slower than 10-100MHz, then short cables could be
unterminated, and then capacitive loading is meaningful.
In the context of a >1GHz presentation, unterminated cables don't make much
sense, so capacitive loading doesn't seem to be the issue. He may have had
his signals crossed.
