Some random thoughts...

Vendors, if you want to advertise your product, show how it would
apply to a question/issue being discussed AND show some results.
If you don't have any results, but have non-commercial inputs,
make 'em. It helps the technical discussions (hopefully), helps
your knowledge of your tool, and shows how your tool is capable
of solving "real world" problems.

I wouldn't expect a Master's thesis, but some data is lots better
than pretty pictures in a flyer IMHO. If you've got plots or
other data, post 'em to a web page and cite the link. If for
some corporate reason that's not possible, I'm reasonably sure
some other arrangements can be made.

If it looks more involved than something reasonably quick,
perhaps an email to the thread originator and publishing a formal
paper is more appropriate.
