Hi Jim,
Speaking as a user of 3.3V parts, I would say there are several
mature technologies from a host of chip vendors. 3.3V Components
are readily available. The outside of the envelope is now 2.5V
with 1.8V somewhere further out. You should not see any ill effects
on project risk, schedule impact, cost, availability, etc.
Mike Mayer makes the valid points of concern if a mixed 3.3V/5V
design is being done.
