The W element has been officially released in Star-Hpice 97.1. For
those of you who have not seen my beta-testing announcement six month
ago, W element is Hspice's new multiconductor lossy frequency-dependent
transmission line model, very fast and accurate. The element inputs R,
L, G, C, Rs (skin-effect) and Gd (dielectric loss) per-unit-length
matrices. There are no limitations on the shape of the matrices, number
of coupled conductors, line length, loss or amount of frequency
dependence.

I would like to thank the 97 engineers from the SI list who volunteered
for the beta-testing of W element. The results were very encouraging,
all of the responded were impressed with the W-element's speed and liked
the ability to accurately model frequency-dependent loss in the time
domain. Several people compared the W-element simulation results to
measurements, and reported an excellent agreement in both frequency and
time domains, which could have not been achieved with
frequency-independent models.

The 97.1 release of Star-Hspice is NOT shipped without a request to
Hspice customers on technical maintenance, but they can obtain it free
of charge by contacting Avant! sales, tel: (408)738-8881 or
(800)940-8773, fax: (408)738-8508. The list of the regional sales is at
http://www.avanticorp.com/corpinfo/salesofc.html.

The platforms supported by the 97.1 release are: Sun SunOS 4, Sun
Solaris, HP PA, IBM RS6000, DEC Alpha, SGI, PC Windows NT, PC Windows
95. The PC versions will be available in 3 weeks.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any W-element questions,
problems or bug reports.
