Your project sounds reasonable and very interesting.

Take a look at the Berkeley Infopad project at:
It has good references on video compression and
spread spectrum transmission. I think it answers a
many questions related to your proposed project.
The Infopad project is driven obsessively by low power,
but most of the concepts they present will be directly
applicable to your project.

You might try a search on amateur radio spread spectrum.
There is an amateur band at 2.30 - 2.45 GHz,
and a great deal of innovation out there.

Here are a few pointers to some sites you might find interesting.


Have fun! Avoid reinventing items you can buy off the shelf or at least
in kit form if you want to finish this in a reasonable time frame
