My experience was serendipitous. It just happened in layout with out my
knowledge. The lesson was to avoid it! The slot was open to the surface
with only a FR4 layer above. 'Big EMI hit not to mention signal integrity
degradation.

Does anyone have experience using slotted ground planes in
which the
slots always run parallel to the signal traces? It would
seem that this
situation would be similar to microstrip along the edge of a
board. What
would be the effect on impedance, crosstalk, and EMI?
