Dan,

Unfortunately for commodity parts, we signal integrity engineers
often have little leverage. And ... for the same device family, different
vendors often have vastly different input and output characteristics.
Sometimes we just have to design for the worst of the worst
cases, since purchasing managers will often switch vendors due to
cost and availability in mid product life.
