International Symposium on Quality of Electronic Design
March 20-22, 2000 , DoubleTree Hotel, San Jose, California

Sponsored By:
IEEE Computer Society; Technical Committees on Design Automation &
VLSI
Design
In Cooperation With
Fabless Semiconductor Association & ACM/SigDA

FINAL CALL FOR PAPERS
---------------------
The 1st International Symposium on Quality of Electronic Design
(ISQED),
provides a forum to present & exchange ideas and to promote research,
development, and application focused on EDA design tools,
methodologies,
and design techniques and processes to ensure continuous improvement
in
the "quality" of integrated circuit designs. The conference audiences
are
primarily the Designers of the VLSI Integrated Circuits & Systems
(SoC &
IP), those involved in the Development and/or Management of EDA/CAD
Tools
and Design flows, Process/Device Technologists, and Manufacturing
Specialists.

Growing complexity of electronic design, and emergence of integrated
systems on chips, fueled by on-going innovations in semiconductor
processes, has led to multitude of issues and challenges, all
affecting
the quality of the product. ISQED emphasizes a holistic approach
toward
design quality and intends to highlight and accelerate co-operation
among
the IC Design, EDA, and Process Technology communities in establishing
industry wide targets for "quality of IC design", and to facilitate an
agreement on a quantitative determination of progress toward the
quality
target.
The conference theme for ISQED 2000 is "the Quality of IP blocks and
System-On-a-Chip Design". Several tutorial tracks as well as in-depth
technical presentations and panel discussions will be devoted to this
subject.

YOUR PAPERS ARE SOLICITED ON:

. Design Quality Definitions and Metrics
. Quality of EDA/CAD Tools, and Design Methodologies
. Quality of IP Blocks & Libraries.
. Quality of Modeling Abstractions and Methods (Behavioral, Delay,
Power,
Noise, Etc.) for Micro & Macro IP Blocks, Interconnects,
Transistors,
Etc.
. Management of Design Database, Design Process, and Tools
Interoperability Implications
. Quality Implication of Layout Migration and Physical Synthesis Tools
. Closing the Design to Manufacturing Loop (Design for
Manufacturability)
. Design for Testability, and Quality of Test Coverage
. Low Power Designs with focus on design quality
. EDA/CAD Tools, Design Techniques, Methodologies, and flows, dealing
with issues such as:
. R, L, C Extraction
. Signal Reflection
. Ground Bounce
. Cross-Talk
. Substrate Noise
. Voltage Drop
. Metal Migration
. High Frequency Effects
. Thermal effects
. Hot Carriers
. Plasma Induced Damage
. EMI/EMC
. Proximity Correction & Phase Shift Methods
. Verifications (Layout, Circuit, Function, etc.)
. EOS/ESD, etc
. Tutorial Papers on Emerging Processes & Devices, and their Effect on
Reliability, Yield, and Performance of the VLSI Design.

SUBMISSION OF PAPERS OR ABSTRACTS:
----------------------------------
Authors should submit: full-length, original, unpublished papers
(maximum 8 pages double spaced with 1" borders) along with an abstract
of at most 200 words and contact author information (name,
association,
street/mailing address, telephone/fax, e-mail). The paper should
contain
as many diagrams as needed to illustrate the point. Electronic
submission
via e-mail is the only accepted submission mode.
Please email a single file, formatted for 8 1/2" x 11" paper, in
either
MS Word, Frame Maker, or PDF format to [email protected]. MS Word files
are
preferred.
Whichever format is used, specify U.S. letter paper (8.5" x 11") and
double-check the as-printed appearance of your article before sending
it.

Please note the following important dates:

Paper Submission Deadline: Sept. 5, 1999
Acceptance Notifications: Oct. 5, 1999
Camera-Ready Papers: Dec. 3, 1999

Best paper Awards:
------------------
ISQED technical committee will award the top three papers based on the
degree of contribution to the field of design quality, originality,
quality of the article, and other factors determined by the committee.
Best paper awards will be handed out to the authors during the
luncheon
on March 21. All papers, except the invited papers, will be considered
for the evaluations.

Conference Highlights:
----------------------
Several tutorial sessions will be held on the first day, where
presentations by many industry experts offer a valuable opportunity
for
practicing professionals to refresh or upgrade their skills in
quality-based IC design techniques, methodologies and tools. This will
be followed by a two day technical program consisting of keynote and
executive speeches, informative presentations by industry leaders,
technical presentations, and panel discussions dealing with various
challenging topics related to IC design and quality.
