[SI-LIST] : looking for info on Hspice vs Star-Sim comparison

We've been using Avant! Hspice for SI simulations for several years,
and it's worked quite well for our needs (although it is quite
expensive). Recently, our group's usage of Hspice has dramatically
increased, so we're looking at other tools to speed up the simulations
and free up usage of Hspice.

Avant! also makes a tool called Star-Sim that is suppose to be "Full
Star-Hspice compatibility in netlist and models", with an
accuracy "well within 5% of SPICE", yet with a "10 -- 1,000 X performance
increase over SPICE". This sounds a bit good to be true, so
I was wondering if anyone out there on the list has tried and
compared both tools. In particular, I'm interested in any comparisons
made between the tools related to SI/SSN that include large
amounts of transistors, behavioral models (IBIS), transmission lines
(W-elements), etc.

Here's the associated tool description URLs:

I'd appreciate any info on experiences you've had.

Thanks,
Pat Zabinski
