I lived in hooch number 1245. Located in the 1200 area of Tan Son Nhut, next to the perimeter fence. Facing toward the south, you can see my hooch. And the bunker beside it, where I got dressed during the rocket attack.
Facing toward the north east. You can see the Base Radar Dome over the top of the bunker next to my hooch.
The perimeter road and two fences where all that seperated my hooch from my Vietnamese neighbors. The road was guarded by the ARVN (Army of the Republic of Viet Nam).
In this view, facing toward the south west, you can see the ARVN guard tower, guard shack, and garage that was across the perimeter road behind my hooch.
A view facing toward the west, along the perimeter road, of the garage that sat next to the ARVN guard shack. The Vietnamese Monument is out of site, next to the cloths line, on the right side of this picture.
Facing east from the upper north side of my hooch. In the back ground you can see the Catholic school on the other side of the perimeter road. The bunker was just below the level of sight in this picture.
The Latrine and Bicycle Rack are below the level of sight in this view facing toward the north east. Bicycles were the usual means of transportation for many airmen.
This was the view from the upper north side of my hooch looking down on the latrine on the left and the bicycle rack on the right. Vietnamese bicycles were so poorly constructed that you had to constantly repair them. Even with constant repair I had to buy three of them in the year I was in Viet Nam.
Facing toward the west from the upper north side of my hooch. I went looking for cover west of hooch 1244 during the attack. The latrine is out of sight on the right. The M-16's visible in this picture had just been cleaned a few days prior to the attack. They were then stored in the arms locker placed between my hooch and 1244.
