9SO - W9HHX QSL CARDS
The 9SO qsl card below is the earliest qsl card from the Milwaukee School of Engineering.   It is dated March 16 1927 at 8:35 a.m., no doubt, before first class, and was written out by W.P.G.  I met WPG William P. Gainer W9SO in 1978 and had a brief chance to talk about the early days.  I just purchased this card in January 2004.

It is interesting to observe that the other fellow 8CCS was running raw AC . The contact was on 40 meters.  Static was 'some'  but the interference (QRM) was 'always'. The transmitter was a UV203 Hartley with 1000 watts on the plate and probably ran 10-15  watts. The receiver was a regenerative with one stage of audio. The transmitter and receiver that was used for this QSO are shown in the 9SO pictures on another page.

This qsl card is owned by my friend Don Buska N9OO who is also an alumni of MSOE.  This card is also 1927, but June 28th at 7 in the morning, also signed by W.P.G.  Click on the thumbnail photo to bring up a full size photo.
The W9HHX qsl card below is dated October 29, 1949. The original card is still a bit larger than the scan. The card was a bit difficult to manipulate but I wanted you to appreciate just how large the card is. I recently purchased this card from a post card collector.  Click on the thumbnail photo to bring up a full size photo.
The W9HHX qsl card below is the standard qsl card (postcard) size. I've enlarged the photo in order to give a better look at the equipment. The transmitter is a Collins 310B-3 and is shown in the center. The homebrew power amplifier is a gorgeous looking piece of home made equipment. The receiver is a National HRO and is shown in the lower right. This is obviously a high class first rate station! I am not sure of the date but I estimate somewhere in the 1940's.  Click on the thumbnail photo to bring up a full size photo.
The W9HHX qsl card at left  was the card that I used during my tenure at MSOE from 1974 to 1978.  Click on the thumbnail photo to bring up a full size photo.
The W9HHX qsl card shown to the left is the current W9HHX QSL card.  The hams at W9HHX were kind enough to send me this card.
Here is my MSOE membership card. It is a standard business card size but is shown much larger for clarity. A new card was issued each quarter. Each quarter used a different color card. This card is a light brown but maybe thats from fading over the years. This one was from around 1976. The card is signed by my friend and alumnus Steve St. Onge WB9UEN.
