The Atchafalaya Amateur DX Association was founded in June 1997 in Morgan City, La.  The club consists of hams from Patterson, La to Raceland, La.  We have regular club meetings the first Friday of every month at 7:00 p.m. at the Morgan City Court House.

Our goal, as a club, is not only to preserve ham radio as an art, but also to have fun and enjoy the hobby!  Also, it is our intent to involve ourselves with the community.  Basically, due to the lack of a 'fun ham club' in the area, a group of guys met at a local daiquiris shop and planned the first field day and the club.

We received our ARRL Affiliation on May 8, 1998.  We are currently trying to take advantage of our affiliation, but because we are so new, we are still in the planning stages.

We applied for our call sign and received it on April 16, 1998.  The Call was KD5DXG which we proudly used for Field Day.  We decided to apply for our vanity call sign and received it on October 5, 1998.  Our new call sign is WA5MC.

We were founded with just eight members.  In just a short 7 years later, we're 29 members strong.  We have an open membership policy.  Anyone interested in the hobby, or those who just want to support us, is eligible for membership.  All family members of a member are free.

After almost 4 long years, we finally achieved something that we've been shooting for from the very beginning.  We finally became an incorporation.  It wasn't easy and it took a lot of patience but we finally did it on Jan 5, 2001.
