RADIO READY KIT

The following is a list of items suggested to have in a carry bag or backpack for use in emergency operation,
with the assumption that the radio operator is to be on foot much of the time, but with access to his vehicle on occasion:

Hand-held transceiver for access to a repeater used for emergency
10 feet of RG8X coax with a PL259 connector at each end
Connector adapter to connect the transceiver to the coax
Emergency antenna (such as a TV twin lead J-pole
Charger for the transceiver
Extra battery pack for the transceiver
Earphone to fit the transceiver
Pen and small pad of paper (or 3x5 notecards)
Duct tape
Flashlight
Extra flashlight batteries
Small clipboard
Radio message forms
Tools (wire cutter, crescent wrench, multi-use screwdriver set, and long nosed pliers)
Pocket knife
Small binoculars
Camera with film
Small first aid kit
Light-weight poncho for rain protection
Baseball cap
Four power bars or other survival food
Waterproof matches
Personal medication if needed

External antenna on roof of car (preferably 5/8 wave or mag-mount in that order)
50 watt mobile transceiver (minimum is an adapter to connect a hand-held to the external antenna
Cigarette-lighter power adapter (for charging the battery used for the hand-held unit)
Large clipboard
Maps
Compass
Black electrical tape
Extra tools as desired
J-Pole or quad antenna with 25 feet of RG8X coax to fit to the transceiver
Headphones for the mobile transceiver
12V Gel-Cell battery pack with connector to fit the hand-held transceiver
50 feet of rope
Food and drink as needed for extended duty
Hat, jacket, and gloves
Extra set of clothes
