We have a very serious development predicted in the Word of God, that will be a source of great problems int the days to come. In the future, there will arise a dramatic and most communicative leader. His motivational and organizational skills will enable him to persuade the whole world to fall in line with his plan. His popularity will be such, that he will dare to declare himself to be god. This person is, of course, the Antichrist. About him, the Bible warns:
"And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and enslaved, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads, and that no man might buy or sell, except he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast; for it is the number of a man; and his number is six hundred threescore and six," Revelation 13:16-18.
When the Bible speaks about receiving the mark of this religious-political leader, it is speaking of dropping into serious and eternal consequences. Many, however, will receive that mark, and bring upon themselves that unspeakable judgment:
"And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, if any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb; And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name," Revelation 14:9-11.
So the Bible points out that every person who is enrolled in the religion of the Antichrist, will suffer eternal punishment. Therefore, you and I do well to wonder if any recent developments might indicate the approach of this terrible hegemony. The prophet Daniel, looking through the eyes of faith, described the time of the end, when "many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased" Daniel 12:4. Therefore, the precipitant, upward expansion of knowledge is identified as a foreshock of the coming of the Antichrist. That shaking is now being felt around the world, as man's growing knowledge is shared with his machines.
