Brown. Keneth (Joe) Brown N5PDQ passed on 04/29/2013 @ approximately 11:30 pm central time. This was with a long battle with cancer that took him. Joe was a good guy and a good ham and will be missed and never forgotten. Joe will be cremated and his ashes distributed into the angelina river as by his request; according to his brother Steve Brown. Many of us knew and respected Joe and we will all feel a loss at his passing. Dangerus Dave K5DDM had this to say about Joe . The pictures attached to this email are
from
various hamfest and our field days up here at Jasper. Some were from
the Jasper air show, and Joe was a big RC Airplane guy, and also was a
pilot at one time. He loved ham radio, and was always fun to talk to on
the air. He collected antique radios, and one is on display at one of
the city museums in downtown Jasper. He was an antenna builder,
and
also quite a project builder. We had three "Joe's" in the Jasper
club,
so I named them "General Joe", (KE5NYS), "Kirbyville Joe", (K5JEP) ,
and "River Joe", N5PDQ. That name seemed to stick , and we all
referred to him as River Joe, because he lived on the river, and loved
it, and took well to the nickname. One of the photos shows
him
shooting an "antenna launcher" built out of PVC pipe. It worked well at
our field day, and he then built me one, which I still have and it
works excellent. It was featured one year in QST(where he got the idea)
and he immediately started building
them with his personal mods which made them cheaper but better. He was
good at it. He also built numerous antennas, and was always on the
cutting edge of that sort of thing. He was a VE (ARRL) , and was
the driving force for the Jasper club to set up testing. He
helped every new Ham in the Jasper Club( in recent years)
get started, and would loan them antennas and radios till they
could get going. He was a big part of our club, and will be
missed greatly.

Cody
Parsley, age 85, of Sour Lake, TX, passed away on November 12, 2018. He
was born to James Jackson Parsley and Mahalia Sue Drake Parsley on
January 20, 1933 in Silsbee, TX. Cody was a thorough, but fun-loving man. Everything he built, he thought it had to be perfect. This was never truer for him than his love-story with his wife, Nancy. Their first date was on her 40th birthday, and they went square dancing. He met her at the car with a musical piano box that played “We’ve Only Just Begun” and that night their life together did. Cody was her corner at the dance but would be her Rock for the rest of his life. While they dated, he would always bring Nancy’s daughter, Melissa, a gift, saying to Nancy “I have to win her heart as well as yours.” On August 13th, 1983 they married, and every month of their marriage, on the 13th of the month, he would give Nancy a silk rose. Cody loved to have a good time, enjoying family gatherings and eating. After attending Kilgore Junior College for a certification in watch repair, he worked for 37 years at Burkette’s Jewelry in Port Neches, TX. He would wait another 3 years before Nancy’s retirement, always finishing his “honey-do” lists and having supper ready every night when she got home. After her retirement, they hit the road for 10 years, travelling to many places and creating many special memories. For over 50 years, he was a proud and accomplished member of the Freemasons. Known for his green thumb, he planted numerous fruit trees on their property. As a HAM radio operator with the call-sign “N5MIY”, he met with a group on the 39-10 channel every morning at 8:00 for 45 years. Cody left his mark on many lives and his memory will live on with them. In his special way of saying goodbye to his friends and loved ones, “May the good Lord take a likin’ to you. Selma Ray Farley, WA5DQW April 24, 1937 - October 29, 2020 Col. Ray Farley, WA5DQW, began his career in Civil Air Patrol as a cadet in 1955 in Beaumont at the Beaumont Downtown Optimist CAP. His love for CAP was beyond anything else. His love at that time was communications and would get together with several members to build radios with Heathkits. At that time as a senior member the Commander, Col. Ross Ewart got an old laundry van donated to the squadron. Ray took on the task to build the first mobile communication van that would go anywhere and everywhere. He loved that van and made built-in cabinets to house each and every radio. After going through the ranks of warrant officer to Major then he took over the Beaumont Squadron in 1975-1982. In 1970 Ray became a private pilot which added more responsibility and doing more search and rescue. During this time a Medical Flight was added to our group headed by Dr. Leonard Greene which became a big asset to our Squadron and Group. Dr. Greene was heading up helping organize the first Emergency Medical Technician class ever held in 1974. Ray and I both were certified as EMT’s and organized Practice SAR tests to include medical attention given on the scene to help save lives. Ray was an avid Amateur Radio Operator, WA5DQW, and mentor to many. He was always responding to communications needs and events wherever needed and took care of the needs of the Jefferson County Amateur Radio Club when no one was looking and taking no credit. In August 1982 Col. George R. Way was Texas Wing Commander. We hosted the largest SAC Eval in Beaumont with over 40 planes attending. And to follow up we hosted the Texas Wing Conference in October 1982 in Beaumont. Texas where Lt. Col. Ray Farley would become the Group XI commander. Lt. Col. Farley served 10 years as Group XI Commander until1992. In 1993, Col. Orlan Scott, the new Wing Commander appointed Lt. Col. Farley to the position of Director of the Counter Drug Program serving on the Texas Wing Staff. His wife, Major Claudia D. Farley would serve as his assistant on the program. In December, 1993 Lt. Col. Farley was asked to be the new Vice-Commander of Texas Wing. Which he served in that capacity until November 1996 where he took over the position as Texas Wing Commander. It was a pleasure for him to serve with such a wonderful staff. He was a proud commander to a great to a great wing. And in 1998 Texas Wing was credited with flying over 10,000 hours for search and rescue as well as for DEA and Customs. Also that year we hosted the Texas Wing Conference in Dallas, Texas. It was a conference that broke all records. We had 504 people attending and registering for the conference as well as 504 attending the banquet. Col. Ray Farley retired in March 2000 with 45 years of service. He was proud of the many achievements and accomplishments he had made during his time as commander. He served with pride to be the Wing commander and loved working with all the members and staff. Besides being in CAP he worked full time as an operator at the DuPont refinery. He served as Capt. On the Fire Brigade as an instructor and went to Reno, Nevada and Lamar University and Texas A&M University for fire training. He also completed another round of EMT training and was recertified and was also an instructor. Col. Ray Farley passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at the Forever Young Nursing Home and will rest in peace. Due to the COVID there will be no funeral service and a memorial will be at a later date. I’m sorry to have to report on the passing today of Ray Farley WA5DQW. Ray was a long time member of the Jefferson County Amateur Radio Club. He was a big supporter of amateur radio and mentor to many. Ray did many good deeds in the background around the JCARC clubhouse never wanting to accept any accolades for his work. Please to a moment to remember Ray as he will be truly missed. There are no arrangements at this time. We will let you know when more information comes available. 73’s our friend. |
