TR4W CONTROL OF THE K3

The  following instructions describe how to  implement CAT control of the Elecraft K3  from within the TR4W logging software while running in a Windows environment.

Both the “CLR” (RIT) and the VFOs of the K3 can be controlled by defining function keys in TR4W.  This allows the RIT to be turned on and off, and to be cleared,  and the VFO A and VFO B frequencies to be interchanged from the keyboard using the Function Keys.

Start TR4W and open the Configuration File for either an existing or a new contest.

1.     From the main logging window select Settings and then Program messages. This will bring up the Memory program functon screen.

2.     Click on  the first option bar Press C to program CQ function key. The List of messages screen will appear.

3.     Select (i.e highlight) CQ CW MEMORY  F6.  Double Click (or hit the Enter Key ) on CQ CW MEMORY F6.  This will bring up the Program message screen.

4.     Enter <03>SRS1=RT1;<04>  in the Message box.  Enter  RIT ON  in the Caption box. Click OK.

5.     Move down to the next line in the List of messages screen and select CQ CW MEMORY F7.  Double click to get the Program message screen.

These commands allow the RIT to be turned ON with Function Key 6, Off with Function Key 8, and cleared with Function Key 7.

This completes the configuration of the RIT commands.  Next are the commands that will allow swapping frequencies between VFO A and VFO B and copying the VFO B frequency to VFO A using the function keys.

9.     Go back to the List of messages screen and select CQ CW MEMORY F11.  Double click to get the Program message screen.

10. Enter  <03>SRS1=SWT11;<04>  in the Message box.  Enter  A/B in the Caption box. Click OK.

This completes the definition of the CQ Function Keys.

To configure the function keys for the Exchange/S&P mode close the List of messages screen.  Only the logging windows should be showing. Again select Settings and then Program messages to bring up the Memory program functon screen.

13. Click on  the second option bar Press E to program an exchange/S&P function key. The List of messages screen will appear.
