05AUG98 - Final Integration Meeting.
The final major integration effort begins. Charlie N5XGW, Mikey KK5SC and John AB5SS are on the left and Mike WA5TWT, with the package is on the right.
John prepares to initialize the GPS unit on the left, but has to go to another computer on the right to locate the appropriate software on the web.
BLT-13 used a different type of stabilization "fin" than previous payloads. John poses with the aerodynamic brake "fin" that Charlie crafted for the flight. The Yaesu sticker is for the payload, not John's forehead...
The 1.2 Ghz ATV transmitter system from W5SXD included an exciter, amplifier and quarter-wave antenna. It is a veteran of many flights. The pieces were "carefully" placed in the box to check the payload weight.
With only three days till launch, all was nearly ready when the participants headed home around midnight. Mike and Andy would finish the packaging and pre-launch testing.
