The Story of the 147.140+ Repeater
This
is the story of the 147.140+ repeater ih Birmingham Alabama. We lost
the location on top of Shades Mountain because the tower owner was making
changes. There was a tree cutting crew clearing trees around the tower
and they just happened to drop a tree on one of the guy wires and this caused
the tower to come down. Well a new location was found and several of
the local hams started clearing the trees from around the base and guy wires.
A bobcat was being used to help with the tree clearing. While
near one of the guy wires, the bobcat operator was attacked by a nest of
yellow jackets. While paying more attension to the yellow jackets,
he yanked on the bottom guy wire. Well it was getting dark and they
decided to look at it the next morning. Several local hams gathered
the next morning to assess the situation and drop the tower.
