The Shack Here's the shack. On the right is my HF operating equipment consisting of a Drake TR7 with an RV7 and PS7 power supply. I am the original owner for the Drake units, having purchased them in 1981. I have the maintenance manuals and extender board kits and have done all the maintenance on them since the original purchase (not really much maintenance required - an occasional adjustment). The TR7 sets on the top shelf and the RV7 on the top of the EIA half-rack. Below the TR7 is my Heathkit SA-2060 antenna tuner and below that is my Heathkit SB-230 linear. On the bottom shelf is a power distribution unit that I modified for 240 volts and the drake PS-7 power supply sits behind it. To the right of the RV7 is a Heathkit VL-2280 2- meter amplifier. The picture below provides a better view of the equipment rack. EIA Half-rack Equipment To the left is my operating table. I have a "home-brew" Pentium III-500 computer that I use for fixed station WinAPRS (with a wireless Davis VantagePro - on the wall) and packet communications via a PK-232/MBX DSP to a Kenwood TM-2530A transceiver (top shelf). The Kenwood TM-2530A VHF transceiver is used primarily for APRS and packet; however, I have an MFJ-1272BX for switching between the PK-232/Computer and voice operation. Below, on the center shelf is the AEA (now Timewave) PK-232. (Originally a PK-232, since upgraded to a PK-232/MBX, then upgraded to a PK-232/MBX DSP.) On the center shelf to the right is my Kenwood TS-570S(G) and mounted directly below it is the ICOM IC-207H VHF/UHF transceiver. The computer and monitor are on the left. On the shelves to the right above the EIA half-rack and cabinet on the wall are my vibroplex keys that I have refurbished. The particular key on the top right shelf is a 1945 Original Vibroplex that has never been used (other than me testing it). Work Bench The above picture is my "electronics" work bench - which is also used to fix lamps, toasters, and assorted honey-do items for the XYL. Not pictured is a closet and another storage area of parts and "collectibles." This is directly left of the "radio" computer and operating table. Antennas I have two VHF antennas, Cushcrafts - one dual band AR-270 VHF/UHF and a standard 2 meter Ringo mounted on the roof and a Radio Shack scanner antenna. A Hy-gain 14AVQ/WB-S 40-10 meter vertical, mounted at ground level, provides my HF capabilities. With the SA-2060, I can use the vertical on 80 meters as well. Hopefully - when I get a round-to-it, I will be able to put up some better HF antennas. (Anyone that has some spare round-to-its please email/ship......) Mobile My mobile rig consists of an ICOM IC-706MK(II) with a VHF/UHF Diamond Antenna and a Tarheel II for working HF. I also use a Turbo Tuner to tune the screwdriver antenna with the ICOM Tune Button. See Photos of the installation at the button on the top of this page. |
