Field Day Activities

June 22, 2002 

The Red Cross asked BARC to participate in Hurricane Preparedness at Lowes Hardware on June 22. The club decided to locate the Field Day site next to Lowes and also had a display at the Red Cross tent in the Lowes parking lot.   Participating were the Pitt County Sheriffs Department, Greenville Fire Department, WITN-TV Channel 7 and others.

A welcome visitor from the past.  Brother Simon Jaworski, KQ2V, visiting from New Mexico.  Everyone was glad to see him again and wished he was still around because he was a great help to the club.

On the left, Scott, KG4PZQ, operates HF while Eddie Campbell, KG4SNE, logs.  On the right in the foreground, Ken Graf, N8FF, works CW while Bryan Weil, (waiting for his callsign), logs.  Ken has been at it for 4 1/2 hours since starting at 8 PM. (W4YDY had to take a break from logging and take the picture.)
Ken, N8FF, still at it Sunday morning after taking a couple of short breaks. Still another logger, Murray, K4MHM at the computer. By this time, all states had been worked and only a couple of Providence's in Canada had not been contacted.

Notice the the sides have been removed from the shelters, but Ken, N8FF is still at it on CW. He's been going for over 12 hours at this time!

Ken, N8FF, still pounding the brass!  It's past 12 Noon, he is intent on making 750 contacts!  (W4YDY took the picture while logging was delayed for a minute while Ken was looking for another QSO.)

Ken just wouldn't give up!  Murray, K4MHM, and Tod, KG4CCX, use a pipe to pry Ken from his operating position so they could pack up.  Ken made over 700 contacts, all on CW except for 2 on SSB. Bands used were 20, 15 and 10 meters.
