BARC set up portable stations at Camp Boddie on October 30 for the Pitt District Fall Camporee. Rick Cannon was the director of the camporee.

Although there were not as many scouts as expected, it gave us a great opportunity to spend more time with them. Murray Merner, K4MHM, John McCoy, K4KBB, Taylor Millar, W4WTM and Dave Langley, W4YDY, set up three stations.   John’s Yasue FT-897, Murray’s Elecraft K1 and an Icom 756PROIII were demonstrated. Antennas used were John’s Tarheel on top of his camper and his Tarheel 75A mounted on the ground. Also the Icom was connected to the 75A mounted on W4YDY’s car for a third antenna.

The boys from Troop 46 asked a lot of questions and several expressed a desire to get their Amateur Radio license.

The scouts ask many questions and were told about how to get licensed.  Several expressed an interest in getting a license.  This was one of the best Amateur Radio demonstrations BARC has had for scouts because of the extra time with the smaller group.
