The 17 founding members of Hilltop Transmitting Association first met in July 1953. The club was officially established and acquired the W3ZGD callsign in 1954. The group initially began meeting at a location along Dairlyland Road in what is now the one room schoolhouse on display at Edgar Moore school in Red Lion.
