W3FF came on
frequency at 20:00Z 11/19/00. There were some other Hams on 18.155
and I heard him go down to 18.153,
where he put out his call to members of the Live Wire group.
I replied and we shifted again to 18.152. I'm sure I could have
improved the performance of the Dipole with a little more height but I
got lazy and managed to snag a post about 15 feet up. Ditto the outbacker.
I could move it a little farther way from the house. I was able to go from
vertical to horizontal polarization most ricky tick by switching the coax.
I should have brought my switcher.

Budd's signal
varied from perfectly readable with NO reading on my S-Meter to perfectly
readable at about S2.
I was just thinking about getting rid of my SGC 2020 in favor of the
Yaesu 817.
Being able to put out 20 watts was very useful. I think I'll keep the
beast.
I wanted it for a disaster radio and although sometimes it's a disaster
all by itself, It seems to do the trick for now.
The most remarkable thing I found was W3FF's
ability to rotate for best signal.
It REALLY made a difference.
Budd's was the
only signal I could pick up out of the noise.
I'm beginning to like the idea of the Yaesu and an amp for high (15-50W)
power.
Another amp in the truck and.....................
