Field Day 1999
Branchburg OEM
NU2W
The amateur radio operators of the Branchburg Township Office of
Emergency Mangement decided to try to put together a Field Day effort for
the first time in 1999. Since the decision was only made about a month
before the event, this was more a test of the real interest in the event
than an effort to score well. It was a resounding succes.

The site was a parking lot and grassy area between Branchburg Township
Police Headquarters and the Township Municipal Building. A 45-foot telescoping
mast supported a G5RV dipole and a Ringo Ranger 2-meter/440 vertical. A
second random-length dipole was erected between two of the trees on the
site. Power was provided by the Branchburg Rescue Squad's heavy rescue,
extrication and emergency support vehicle's generator (above center).

The operation was coordinated primarily by Bob Zelnick, N2GYS (logging,
above right), with equipment provided by all of the members of the OEM
radio operators hams that participated: Jim Dry, KB2VRO (operating, above
left), Marc Greenbaum, N2QNZ (above center), Tom Housten, WA2CUE, Tom Lanieri,
NU2W (logging, above left), Paul Malarcher, WB2CNF, and Jamie Rick, WB2PUN
(operating, above right) .
We had two HF stations on the air from 2pm local time until about
9pm local time. The team succeeded in contacting over 180 stations all
over the country using both voice, and CW (Morse Code).
