MASHPEE - Bernard F. "Bernie" Hanrahan, 87, died yesterday at Harborside Healthcare Center in Falmouth after a brief illness.
Born in Calais, Maine, Mr. Hanrahan grew up in East Foxboro and the Wakefield area.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Marine Corps 9th Battalion in the South Pacific and Guadalcanal.
Mr. Hanrahan worked as an investigator with the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles for approximately 30 years, retiring in 1986.
He also worked as a driver for J.P. Noonan in West Bridgewater for a number of years.
Mr. Hanrahan moved from Stoughton to Mashpee in 1984. He enjoyed golf, travel and spending time with his family. He was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude M. "Gige" (Bowser) Hanrahan; two daughters, Karla Burke of Norfolk and Cheryl Benkart of Norton; four sons, William Hanrahan of Kissimmee, Fla., Thomas Hanrahan of Nokomis, Fla., Robert Hanrahan of Gainesville, Fla., and John Hanrahan of Stoughton; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at John-Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Road (Route 28), Marstons Mills.
The funeral Mass is at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Christ the King Church, Mashpee Commons.
