Happy New Year!!!!

The 53.71 mhz Six Meter repeater is back at the Fargo Road Site and linked up with the 223.96 repeater. Joe,K1IKE, Fred N1WLI and Bruce KB1KHC  all worked very hard in the freezing cold to reinstall the repeaters in the rack at the water tower. Special thanks go to Joe, for all the time that he has put in on the project tuning and connecting the two machines through the Cat 1000 repeater controller. The project is still a work in progress at this time. The frequency of the six meter repeater has been changed temporarily due to the fact that there was an extreme amount of interference at the site on the old frequency of 53.85 mhz. We will be working on coordination by CSMA for a new frequency. We also obtained an Aerotron low band commercial radio that was on 45 mhz from Troy, KB1BVF, thank you Troy for the donation. Joe, K1IKE will be working on modifying this radio to turn it into a six meter repeater for the club. This should be a great repeater.

A reminder that the annual dues are due again and can be paid by mail or at the next meeting. There is an application on the website that you can print out and mail to the club PO Box 1174, Waterford, CT 06385.

This year we would like to get the 224.26 repeater back in service at the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital. There are many possibilities that we can explore at the Hospital site in cooperation with the Hospital Department of Emergency Management.

Please show your support for the club by paying your dues and coming to a meeting, or getting on the air and using the clubs repeaters.

Thank you,

Happy New Year!!!!

The next club meeting is Thursday January 3, 2008 at 07:30 hrs at the Jordan Park House located on Avery Lane and Rte 156 in Waterford, CT.

We will be discussing the status of the 53.85 rpt and the future plans for the club in 2008. I would personally like to thank all those involved in the 53.85 rpt project for all the time and effort they have given to making this rpt happen. I especially would like to thank Joe K1IKE for all his assistance with the repeater. I also would like to thank Fred N1WLI and Mike W1MCT for all the time they have spent working on this project.

Hope to see you there.

July 31, 2007

The 53.85 six meter repeater and the 224.26 repeater have finally been moved to the Vauxhall Street Ext water tower. President Mike Tucker along with Tech Committee Chairman Fred Carlough and Trustee Harrison Fortier made the move on Saturday July 21, 2007. Unfortunately the repeater did not perform up to our expectations and was removed from service on Saturday July 28, 2007 for a thorough check on the bench by Mike Tucker. He found that the receiver preamp was not performing up to spec, probably due to a previous lighting strike at the old location. Mike made the necessary repairs and the repeater was put back into service on 7/31/2007. This project was a long time coming from first approval until now. I hope that the new location serves Southeastern Connecticut well.

We also performed some minor maintenance to the 146.97/ 448.975 repeater site by cleaning up site and we discover that one of the fans on the 146.97 amplifier was not working. Mike took the old fan and will be working on replacing it as soon as possible. The repeaters were performing up to standard and were left in that state. “If it aint broke don’t fix it!”

The status of the 146.67/223.96 repeater is still up in the air. We will try to have it back on the air even temporarily if possible until we can negotiate a new deal with the Town of Groton, CT. We are looking into several locations at this time.

March 2007

*****************************************************************************************************************

Dave Reed,W1RED, has volunteered to put the “N” connectors on the hard-line at the Vauxhall St Ext Site so that we might move forward with this ongoing project to move the 53.85/ 224.26 repeater to that location. There was some discussion in regard to the Groton Site at the meeting and to the reasons why we moved our equipment out. There was concern that we were losing a good site for our repeaters. Unfortunately we had to move due to the condition of the building and the problems with the tower not being registered or maintained by the Town of Groton. Much discussion ensued about grants and alternate means of financing the project. These discussions, though appropriate, must be between the club and the Town of Groton, CT. They own the property, the building, and the antenna tower and it is their responsibility to maintain it. The 146.67 repeater has been taken off the air temporarily due to a report from John Spigel, W1AN, that it was causing interference to his repeater.

A reminder to all club members Dues are past due and are still only $25.00. They can be mailed to SCRAMS, PO Box 1174, Waterford, CT. 06385.

The application may be printed off the web site and mailed in with your dues. We still need members and volunteers to help keep the club active and going. Without members the club would not exist nor would the six repeaters maintained by the club. Please consider attending a meeting on the first Thursday of each month at the Jordan Park House located on Rte 156 in Waterford, CT. at 07:30 pm.

November 2006

******************************Special Announcement*******************Special Announcement***************************

The Groton Connecticut Repeater site located on Fort Hill Road has been removed due to the conditions of the building provided by the Town of Groton Emergency Management Department. The roof had numerous holes and leaks in it and there was Black Mold growing inside all the rooms.

The Town was made aware of the problem by us and they proceeded to fix the roof by nailing a large blue tarp over it. This temporarily addressed the holes and need of a new roof but did not address the mold issue. Therefore in the best interest of the club we had to remove our equipment from that location and are in the process of finding a new location for the repeaters. Currently the 146.67 repeater is temporarily on the air at the Presidents home in Montville Connecticut so as to maintain our frequency. The repeater has limited coverage but please feel free to try it.
