Minutes of Meriden Amateur Radio Club
The evening activities were opened by Pres. Bill W1KKF on December 14, 2007. December 2007 After an introduction of our guest Ernie - Wallingford Director of Emergency Management, the 30-35 members and their guests enjoyed a culinary feast orchestrated by our own chief chef John K1VDF, Dave K1WJL and their able staff (Jim N1ZN, Haggie KB1HCC and Dan W1DMM). Arrays of fine desserts were provided by many of the attendees. The evening weather cooperated with a clear December night. Following the satisfying repast, the business meeting began. The normal agenda was dispensed with. This year we were not without our share. John N1GNV took the floor to moderate the award presentations. (horse’s derriere) Award. John entertained us with verbal thumbnails of the candidates for the HA Award. • The coveted HA Award was presented to Bob KB1CIW for the 2007 longest and largest collection of blunders. Bill W1KKF made the nights highlight awards to the Ham of the Year and Elmer of the Year. These awards are voted by the membership and represent the top praise of MARC members. • Elmer of the Year - Skip Paquette W1SKP • Ham of the Year - Skip Paquette W1SKP Before we closed, John N1GNV announced the challenge of a scholarship match by QuickSilver Radio was met and $405 ($205 in attendee donations and a $200 match) contributed to the Scholarship fund. Candy Store - (N1ZN) • A new vendor, The Parent Shop, (www.theparentshop.com) has been secured - he was at the Nutfest. Has a variety of products. Passed • One of the picnic tarps fell down at the Nutfest. Repair in progress • Reflector future tabled until January Annual Meeting - • The November business meeting is the Annual Meeting per our bylaws. K1VDF took the floor as teller. The current officer slate has agreed to run again except for Rich WA1TRY who has indicated his wish to step down - Jim N1ZN has agreed to be nominated for vice-president. Additional nominations were opened, Nominations closed. Motion that the Secretary cast one unanimous vote for the nominees, Passed. Slate elected unanimously. • The reelected 2008 officers are:

approximately 18 people in attendance. A quorum was present. October 2007 Announcements - • Introductions. • Next meeting is on Thursday, Oct 25 at 7:30 PM - 60th Anniversary Party • Still need coffee-and person(s) for meetings. • November is the Annual Meeting with election of officers and Major Award voting. • Current officer slate will run again but VPres would like to step down. GeneralJuly 2007 0 Meeting opened at 7:40pm by Bill W1KKF with the following announcements: • Next club event would be the July 26th activity meeting. • We still need a Refreshments Chairperson (i.e. “coffee man”) to manage the coffee pot, soda, and donuts for meetings. • The Taste Of Wallingford will be September 29-30 this year, the week before our Nutmeg Hamfest. • Special thanks went to Skip W1SKP for a donation of several hand tools, which were given to Rich WA1TRY at the meeting. • Scholarship winner announced; from Cheshire High School… PETER JOHNSON. His excellent credentials and accomplishments were read and everyone applauded his work. • Previous month’s business meeting minutes were printed in KeyKlix and accepted as published. • Treasurer’s Report was read and accepted, with no dissenting vote (?). • There was one QSL card received from our Field Day activities to be given to Bob, KE1AU, our QSL manager for response. Committee Reports o Activities Chairman/Bob KB1CIW 3rd annual July Parking Lot picnic will be a hot dog evening on July 26th. Please bring rig, grilles, dogs, etc. The annual “Help the W1-QSL Bureau” effort was discussed and MARC will offer our usual help for our September activity. Bob outlined plans for the 60th MARC anniversary events, and he will prepare a written condensation of the activities being discussed for publication in the next issue of KeyKlix for August. o Geoff N1GY, a current member of MARC and a resident of the Tampa Bay, FL area made several nice comments about his involvement with the Manatee ARC, and his experiences here at MARC. o Station Activity Chairman/Rich WA1TRY We have a TS-450 issue (the town’s rig) Still having problem with the TenTec tuner that was returned from them after being repaired. Old Business o New club banner discussed Motion to buy a $200 banner from SIGN-A-RAMA in Wallingford was made and seconded, unanimously accepted. Mike KB1MEK will coordinate with SIGN-A-RAMA. o Discussion about a new MARC computer was tabled for now. o Bill W1KKF discussed getting our MARC Field Day logs in by the deadline. o Skip W1SKP discussed more support for the Boy Scout radio merit badge. The next Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) will be the 3rd weekend in October, and is looking for club help. Next spring ’08 there will be a Boy Scout Camporee at the Bethany, CT airport, expecting about 3,000 scouts! More merit badge activity is expected for next April/May at MARC. • Talking with Joel about possibility of VE testing after merit badge training. o 60th MARC Anniversary, general discussion Bob KB1CIW will outline events in next KeyKlix. Club members will have 60th stickers for their personal QSL cards. • QSO party activity from October 26th through November 2nd at W1NRG. • MARC anniversary QSO party will be announced in QST / CQ magazines o We will use W1NRG/60 call sign and will issue a special MARC 60th certificate to anyone who works and QSLs to W1NRG/60. New Business • Bill W1KKF announced the gift of radio equipment to the MARC from W1SQK, a recent Silent Key. o W1SQK was Frederick A. Stone of 153 Madison Road, Durham, CT. o A list of the items included a Kenwood TS940 transceiver and amplifier. o We will review the list and decide how best to use this wonderful gift. A letter of sympathy and gratitude was sent to Mrs. Stone. • The 50/50 raffle was won by Bill KB1GZJ and contributed by him to the Scholarship Fund. o THANKS, Bill! May 2007 General - • Introductions. • Next meeting is on Thursday, May 24 at 7:30 PM - A review of our Field Day set up • Still need coffee-and person(s) for meetings. • Bill brought all up to date on the status of the Wallingford Repeater. GOTA station outside. • Gurus: HF-CW W1KKF, HF-SSB W1SKP, VHF W1DMM, GOTA KB1CIW, APRS KB1HCC, Food KB1FYL • Need Gurus for Satellite. All the listed gurus can use a helper or assistant. • Planning meetings are the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month. Equipment check-out on Saturdays, See WA1TRY for time schedules. Bike Race will not be run this year. • MARC is being equipped for AirMail. • Motion by WA1VXH second by KB1HCC for WA1TRY to bid on eBay for 1200 baud TNC for about $100 for MARC AirMail station. Passed Miscellaneous • BSA Radio Merit Badge class - Skip W1SKP - Successful program about 31 scouts passed. Lots of good impressions. • Motion by N1GNV second by N1API to get a painted vinyl banner from Sign-A-Rama about $200. Report & Minutes of January 2007 The business meeting was opened at 1930 on January 8, 2008 with approximately 15 people in attendance. A quorum was present. Announcements - • The president has asked that most reports be delivered via Key Klix to reduce the boring parts of the meeting. The business meeting will hopefully conclude with a mini technical session. • Next meeting is on Thursday, Jan 22 at 7:30 PM - An activity meeting Secretary's Report - • Accepted as published for both November and December. (Correction: K1SKP and KB1KGP should read W1SKP and N1KGP, respectively). • To comply with the new administration request, this document will include the meeting minutes and other reportable items, such as net status, to comply with our various rules and desires. Note the new title. Treasurer's Report - • All assets as of Jan 8th $10,946.54 (Gen'l Funds 4340.11, Scholarship 6606.43) • After a discussion on the impact of the economy on the Money Market Fund, the report was accepted as presented. • Annual audit still in progress. • Motion by N1ZN Second W1SKP to transfer $250 scholarship funds into Market fund.
