December 2006
The evening activities were opened by Pres. Bill W1KKF on December 15, 2006.
After a round of introductions, the 40 members and guests
enjoyed a culinary feast orchestrated by our own chief chef John K1VDF and his
able staff. Arrays of fine desserts were provided by many of the attendees. The
near Spring like weather conditions were a pleasant contrast to last years 6 to
10 inch snow storm.
Following the satisfying repast, the business meeting began The normal agenda was dispensed with exception
of a successful motion to accept into membership Walt W1ATV and Mark K1MKF both
of Meriden.

Competition is usually intense for the renowned H.A.
(horse’s derriere) Award. John entertained us with verbal thumbnails of the candidates
for the HA Award.
The coveted HA Award was presented to Don KE1AY for his
astute over-the-air interrogatory during the Bike Race “How do you tell the
boys from the girls?’
Bill W1KKF made the nights highlight awards to the Ham of
the Year and Elmer of the Year. These awards are voted by the membership and
represent the top praise of MARC members.

The evening closed with heartfelt good wishes to all and a hope

(N1API)
New Ameritron has arrived – it is an
AL-811H 800 watt HF amp. Able to get it at for about $50 more than the 600 watt
811 amp.
New tuner and amp working well.
W1NRG packet node is on 145.77 MHz
Two meter beam working well, 6 meter
beam to be reconnected shortly – weather dependent.
Discussion on new rig for club was
tabled after active discussion until next year or indefinitely. Steering
committee KA1EAJ, KB1CIW, K1SEZ, and N1API.
Motion by N1API second KA1EAJ to
purchase an AMTEK WM1 Computing Power/SWR meter for $149.95 +SH. Passed. Bill
to order.
Club/Contesting Activities -
Shack was opened for CQWW. SSB weekend
of Oct 28th. Not much interest.
The new amp was pressed into service –
successfully – for SS-CW. A clean sweep was obtained with about 415 QSOs.
SS-SSB is the weekend of Nov 19th,
Skip KA1EAJ is coordinating operators.
JOTA was October 21st & 22nd.and
was a success with many scouts and their parents showing a lot of interest.
Skip KA1EAJ is working on setting up a Radio Merit Badge clinic at the shack.
Get in touch with Skip to work with these aspiring future hams. Tentative dates
Dec 7th, 8th, and 9th.
The new MARC Marathon started October

at the First United Methodist Church (same as last year) Old Rock Road in East

Annual Meeting
Ballots for Ham of the Year and Elmer
of the Year were cast. Winners announced at Christmas Party. Don KE1AU was
teller for the Annual Officer Elections.
The existing slated was proposed as
nominations. Nominations from the floor were Jim N1ZN for vice-president by
N1API and Rich WA1TRY for Station Manager by N1GNV. All nominees agreed to be
considered for the respective offices. Secret ballots were used for contested
offices.

Nutmeg Alliance Treasurer Rich WA1TRY
presented a distribution check to MARC resulting from the 2006 event
efforts. Kudos all around.
Reports of financial problems at
Mountainside are a concern for the 2007 event. More to follow as news is firmed
up.

Chris is working with Ernie to better
develop town/club integration. This will include a new Emergency Management
(Civil Preparedness) oath to comply with Home Land Security requirements.
Miscellaneous
There is a sign-in sheet for the
building THAT MUST BE USED at all times – except regular MARC meetings –
located near the first floor entrance. A town liability and legal requirement.
We need a new coffee and coordinator
for our meetings. KB1HCC will take it for a couple of months.

tabled after active discussion. Criteria, ideas and comments will be on the
reflector and a search committee will report back.

All good news. Weather best ever,
virtual sellout of inside tables, more outside vendors than ever, and well
attended convention. Kudos all around.
Alliance members to meet to finalize
details. Gate is up about 14% over last year.
Club table and pre Nutfest sales
netted $1888.

provide tent shelter at the gate

paper source to reduce costs.

- Cheshire has a Walk-A-Thon April 23rd.
- ARRL visit MARC on April 29th for EmComm
show & tell.
- CERT class may be available. This is a
6-8 week training class
Field Day
- Chris & Rich are deeply involved
in a planning function and ironing out all the potential problems,
- Wallingford will not permit our use of
the field from last year - it is a bird sanctuary.
- A search for a new location is on.
- GOTA rules are different this year -
possible up to 1000 bonus points available.
Miscellaneous
- Repair of the picnic fly is under some
planning committee.
- KA1EAJ has booked the church again for
the December Holiday Party. Friday Dec 15th.

- 10/10 QSO party: SSB Feb 4/5. A MARC
Castle Craig net met on 28.375 at 18:45 ET (23:45Z) on Fri 2/3 to kick off the
QSO party. Band activity was at a minimum
- Al inidicated the Castle Craig special
is complete. Returns are coming in.

Ernie and the ARC to give focus to our club interests. This includes a possible
CERT (Civilian Emergency Response Team) training session. In the mean time members are encouraged to attend

- Volunteer sick people are needed for a
casualty drill on April 26th in Milford. Check with Chris WA1VXH
Miscellaneous
- Field Day is coming. Chris WA1VXH is
chairing a planning committee with KA1EAJ and WA1TRY as vice chairs. Plans and
details will be forthcoming

- The annual CPTV Expo is looking for
smiling faces in Hartford on April 27 – 30. See details in Key Klix article.

to Joel N1JEO in recognition of his many years of tireless service by President

- N1GNV gave a presentation on pass
years expenses and budget projections for 2006. No dues increase is currently
contemplated.
