Hello Kai,

Cycle to cycle jitter is the variation in the clock transition from the
corresponding transition in the previous cycle.

Another jitter definition is the periodic jitter (or the short term jitter)
that measures the maximum variation in clock transitions from ideal
position. The variations can be leading or lagging from the ideal position.

Long term jitter is the maximum change in the clock transition from ideal
position over many clock cycles. (normally can be measured using delayed
time base on the oscilloscopes). This is closest to be called the peak to
peak jitter.

More cycle to cycle jitter can add to the measured peak to peak jitter
values over a period of time. From a system point of view cycle to cycle
jitter can cause more harm. Setup and hold time failures are primarily
caused by clock period differences between the consecutive cycles rather
than the clock variations from an "ideal" clock.

P-t-P jitter could be the measured value for both random and deterministic
