This year I decided to explore a few new places in Southern California.
The first location I tried was on Mount Breckenridge, just east of Bakersfield,
CA. While the location was high enough, there were quite a few trees and
obstacles that made things a little difficult. I had to move around to
a couple of different locations to work both north and south. The following
day, I was able to go to Frazer Peak across the valley to join several
other hams and had a great time working both north and south. Unfortunately,
due to power supply failures, my 10 Ghz activities were curtailed in mid-afternoon.
Lars, AA6IW, and myself attempted a 200+ mile 24 Ghz contact that morning,
but didn't make it this time. During the first half of the contest he and
I were able to work 130 miles across some difficult terrain from Mt. Diablo
(near San Francisco) to San Benito in Central California.
