CHAPTER 10
AMPLIFIERS
Introduction
An amplifier is a circuit that increases the amplitude of an input signal. The frequency remains the same at the output. They form an essential part of any communication circuit and thus find wide application in radio, television circuits.
Amplifier classification
Amplifiers can be classified as follows:
According to its input,
Small signal amplifier
Large signal amplifier
According to the transistor configuration
Common Base amplifier (CB)
Common Emitter amplifier (CE)
Common Collector amplifier (CC)
According to number of stages
Single stage amplifier
Multi stage amplifier
According to bias conditions
Class A
Class B
Class (AB)
Class C
According to frequency response
Audio frequency response- AF amplifier
Intermediate frequency amplifier- IF amplifier
Radio frequency amplifier- RF amplifier
Single Stage Amplifiers
These amplifiers have a single amplifying device, i.e., a transistor or FET in CE, CB, CC or CS or CD configuration respectively.
