What should I learn to get Licence?

The Asoc examination tests the candidate's knowledge in basic radio theory, national and international Amateur Radio Regulations and the ability to send and receive Morse code wherever applicable. No Academic qualification is stipulated, but one has to write answers to the questions English or Hindi. The ASOC examination has two parts, Part-I is the written examination - Section-I Radio theory & practice and Section-II National and International Radio Regulations as applicable to the operation of an Amateur Radio Station. Part-II is the practical examination in sending and receiving Morse Code at a speed of 5 words per minute (wpm) for Grade-II and 12 wpm for Grade-I and Advanced. There is no Part-II Examination for Restricted Grade Licence. Applicants holding Degree in Telecommunications or electronics and electrical communications or a degree recognised by the Central Government as equivalent to the above degree shall be exempted from appearing in Section-I of ASOC examination. For SWL licence, there is no examination and the application shall be submitted in the prescribed form with relative enclosures and licence fee. More details regarding the operating privileges and formalities regarding application will be provided upon request. Once you pass the examination and get the licence you can go on the air. Ordinary radio receiver can be used and for making a simple transmitter for your own, to start with, will cost more than the price of a good radio receiver. Depending on pocket one can import sophisticated Transceivers at concessional Customs Duty.
