REPEATER SOCIETY OF KODAI (VU2 KOD)

Repeater Society of Kodai which was started in the year 1990 - 1991. This Repeater Society involved in developing the hobby of Amateur Radio. Amateur Radio has been recognised as a second line of communication. Calamities and Disaster's such as Flood, Earthquakes etc., dislocate the electrical and telecommunicatiion systems. In many instances, Hams have helped to restore normalcy by organising a Radio Communication Network. A few occassions where Hams have thus helped are Morvi Dam Burst, the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, the Quilon Train Accident and the recent earthquake in Lattur(Maharashtra).

A number of Doctors, Engineers and other professionals from different walks of life are part of Hamdom. These people offer free advice on many subjects, including medical aid. Life saving drugs have been procured from overseas by the efforts of the Ham community at short notice. Hams also play a vital role in the smooth conduct of motorsport events, festivals, processions etc.,

Our society owns VHF repeater installed at its own QTH at a height of 2250 meters above sea level in Kodaikanal. It as one of the Repeaters with a wide coverage in India. This is the only repeater in India powered by a windmill. The coverage of the repeater extends to almost all the places of Tamil Nadu and also most places in the states of Kerala, Karnataka and Sri Lanka. Which reaches to 60 percent of the Ham Population. The Society has proposed to raise funds in order to improve the functioning of the repeater and make it accessible for many more Hams.
