Cyclone John

Cyclone John was very destructive, like all other Category 5 cyclones !
This time, it was Dampier and Karratha that looked like copping the fury, the whole town was secured as well as possible, shelters we made, everyone was prepared - at Karratha anyway. Thelma took an unexpected turn at the last minute and headed South-South-East, straight for Whim Creek. Whim Creek is a one pub town with a service station and it was hit pretty bad.
What's funny - the Australian Bureau of Meteorology had no measurement devices there, so they can't accept the record for the highest winds ever recorded (in the southern hemisphere?) on land.

Topical Cyclone John just north of Karratha and Dampier
Category 5 (the highest category) - Winds to 250 kilometres per hour.
Tropical Cyclone Ilsa is the big cloud mass to the top left.

The same cyclone image from Aussie Bureau of Meterology.
The eye can clearly be seen in both pictures !
