VK3IU short history

I became licensed in 1980 first as a German-C class for VHF/UHF only  (DG7ZJ) and a  German B-License (ADVANCED)  ON 12 Aug. 1981 [DL5ZAH].

I love CW Operations and used to be very active during
my time in the Philippines from 1993 to 2000.

If you hear me calling CQ to fast for you, just call I will always QRS .

Today, I hold the advanced call VK3IU, the call was issued to me on September 26, 2008 after the two letter call sign raffle conducted by the WIA.
My previous Australian call where VK3WWR and for 3 month VK3RWW which had been issued to me by mistake :), as it is designated for repeater LOL.

In 2022 I was granted the special contest call sign  VJ3U, which I am use during contest operations only.

During my HAM life I held following call signs under my name
all expired or returned now.
DG7ZJ     1980 for one year, German class "C"   VHF/UHF only
DL5ZAH  1981 forward, German class "A" after one year class "B" advanced

4F7RWW (Cebu City Philippines) 2000
VK3WWR first permanent call in Australia about 2000 to 2008, Australian advanced

Current Shack

To the right a picture of  my current setup.  I am still operating my trusted YAESU FT-1000MP which I own since 1997.  Besides the FT-1000MP sits my old ETM 9C memory keyer, one of the best ever made, both are now antiques.
The three monitors are used to show the logbook  Log4OM emails, dx cluster, reverse beacon network.

The shelf and the table top are all home build to my custom designs.  As you will notice this desk had CW in mind when it was designed giving me an elbow length to rest on the table to reach the CW keyers.

I never could find an input for a microphone, people claim that there is a microphone socket in every radio..

I am an enthusiastic CW operator and avoid SSB QSOs on HF. Sometimes I try RTTY or PACTOR II  but there are not many operators outside of a contest.

So far  >86% of QSOs under VK3IU are CW, the shame full 14% are SSB nets, I have been pressured to attend.
