Special Events

As well as just “hamming it up” on the air, the Society participates in a number of special event activities every year, for example:

• Various Amateur Radio contests throughout the year
• The International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend (mid-August)
• The International Scouts' and Guides' Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) (late October)
• Some of our members set up and operate the safety communications network for various community events:
  • in association with CREST NSW Inc., the OxFam Trailwalker. This event, in late August, raises money for OxFam's tremendous work in 26 countries, including indiginous Australia.
  • in association with WICEN (NSW) Inc., the Hawkesbury Canoe Classic, in late October. This event raises money for the Arrow Bone Marrow Transplant Foundation.

DXpeditions

David VK2CZ has conducted numerous DXpeditions, including:

• Darwin, Northern Territory, as VK8AA 
• Cocos (Keeling) Islands, as VK9AA 
• Christmas Island, as VK9XD
