This is the station of VK2JEM. Oh, and that's me!

This is me with some of my toys, including my Drake R8, ICOM R75 and the YAESU FT-101Z(D) that replaced the KENWOOD TS-440S/AT, which prematurely died of old age (a well known problem with Kenwood Ts-440s and R-5000s). I was so impressed by the 101 that I decided to match it with an FRG-7 Then an FRG-7700. The FRG-7 has the Kiwa filters added, and while it cant match the R75 for serious DX-ing, is a fine, fun SWL receiver. The FRG-7700 has digital frequency display and crisper audio then the FRG-7 but that crispness can sound very harsh, especially as IF the filters are so wide. Generally the 7700 is not as enjoyable to use as the FRG-7

A PC 4.1  Sub-Sat speaker system (Hercules) with a big sub is connected to the R75. This gives the R-75 very good audio indeed, and makes it a killer at pulling out the weak signals. However the rig I use most of all these days is the Drake R8. While it lacks the DSP of the R-75 it has fabulous audio (when fed through the hi-fi) and is extremely sensitive and is only let down by poor layout of the controls and poor PC controllability.

By scrolling down you can see close up and detail pics. You can also see the various other scanners, antenna tuners, portable receivers, external speakers and other equipment that help bring all those signals in.
