Jamboree Of The Air 2002 at the Comm Shack

VK1KRF and VK2HPN

Phil VK2HPN and I VK1KRF hosted a camping weekend for the Southern Cross Pinnacle scout group at the Comm Shack.

My place is in the "High Country" of the Tinderry Ranges north east of cooma in New South Wales. The shack is at 1100M altitude and the hill
on my property is 1170M it rises upover a very short distance and looks into the cooma valley. What a perfect place for a bit of mobile comms.

We did a bit of IRLP into the local node from a small cave under the huge cliff you see below. This was a perfect opportunity to use mobile radios
in the bush for the Abseiling operations and to keep in contact with the others down at the shack

The Scouts here were as young as 12. They need a medal for being gutsy enough to go over the cliff. It was a first time for a lot of them.

The evenings gave way to HF operations , 2Meter op's and IRLP. We didn't get many rare contacts

but we did get around the world so to speak.

The view here is about 270 degrees and on a clear day one can see Mt Kossiusko which is about 200Km away

What a great thing. We will do that again
