My name is Bob Chandler and have held the amateur radio
callsign VE3SRE since 1990. I also hold a Quebec callsign VA2SRE.
Prior to that I was an active shortwave listener for many years, an
interest I still hold.
This site has not been updated much since it was
created in the summer of 2002. I'm finally doing a few updates
now in the spring of 2006. I've registered "ve3sre.com" and plan to eventually
put a new site over there. Right now you'll just see a "marker"
page.
I am a former amateur radio columnist for "Listening In" magazine, a magazine for shortwave listeners, scanner enthusiasts, AM broadcast band, FM and TV DX'ers and amateur radio operators alike. I was the contest coordinator for the annual "Ontario QSO Party" amateur radio contest held the third full weekend of April each year and I'm also a volunteer with the "VE3 Incoming QSL Bureau".
My radio interests include amateur radio contesting on both the HF & VHF/UHF bands, amateur radio DXing, AMFM&TV DXing, amateur radio satellites, and just about anything to do with radio.
My station currently consists of a Kenwood TS690S for HF and 6 meters with a 3 element Hygain TH3 yagi on 10/15/20 meters on a 50 ft. tower, inverted V dipole antennas on 40 & 80 meters, and a 4 element Hygain yagi at 30 ft. on 6 meters. I also run a Kenwood TS790A 2m/70 cm. all-mode transceiver with a 14 element yagi on 2 meters, six element yagi on 70 cm. (which I hope to upgrade soon!), and a Motech dual band groundplaneantenna hanging off the side of the tower at the 35 ft. level for VHF/UHF FM work. You might also findme walking around town with a Kenwood TH26AT on 2 meters and a Realistic HTX-404 on 70 cm.
I also use numerous portables for listening purposes
including a
Realistic DX-392 , Uniden
CR-2021 ,
Panasonic RF-2200 , a
Soviet-era VEF-206 , GE Superadio II
& III.
I've also got a few radio "rehab" projects that I'll
get around
to someday. You can see some of the pics by

I've also become an enthusiastic user of Linux and open
source software.
I am employed as a project representative for an adult education centre in Toronto.
