Chinese Cultural Club – Newsletters Archive – Subject: New web site, meetings, plans  January 4, 2004

Dear members,                                                                                                                                                                                                    January 4, 2004

The Chinese Cultural Club wishes you all a happy new year.  We would like to thank and welcome all new members who signed up during our first meeting (Thursday December 18, 2003).  Just a reminder, any student at Markville who holds a valid SAC card may still join us during any of our meetings by simply asking for registration services.  Over the holidays, we came up with new plans for the club, based on the suggestions of our members.  This e-mail is intended as a brief summary to give you all some general insights as where we’re headed.

New web site:

During the holidays, Edward Choi, Johnson Tse and Simon Wong have worked many hours on our new web site for your convenience.  Our web site URL is http://www.markvilleccc.cjb.net  We recommend all members visit this site often in order to receive the latest updates of club information.  The web site includes a section for news, meeting dates/up-coming subjects and meeting minutes, members list, newsletter collection, contact information, and general information about our club.  We are still planning on expanding the site in the near future.  We hope you enjoy.

Meetings:

Please note that our next meeting will be this Thursday, January 8, 2004 at 3:10pm (after school) at room 218.  Subsequent meetings are held every other Thursday, excluding school holidays.  Meeting dates are subject to change and we will let you know during our meeting(s), via e-mail or on our new web site as information becomes available.  Please visit the meetings section of our web site for the information about our past and up-coming meetings.

The next meeting may consist of a special presentation by our member, Nima Baratzaden, who plans to bring a guest speaker to talk about Chinese politics.  However, at this time, he is still trying to confirm the time with the guest speaker, so in the event that he is not available, the presentation may be postponed to the following meeting.  In that case, we will probably show an exciting movie during this meeting.

Where we’re heading:

During our staff meeting during the holidays, we have reviewed the registration forms and the suggestions given by our club members.  Many wished for more Chinese cultural events/learning, Chinese music/movies/food, field trips, etc.  After viewing these suggestions, we decided to show some Chinese movies/music during our meetings.  As well we hope members can make presentations and share their knowledge with the rest of the club.  At this time, we are still planning field trip(s) that would interest everyone, which may include food/new year/dragon boat, etc.  We would like to have some suggestions from you; our members on what kind of trips interest you the most.

We thank all our members’ inputs, and we continue to hope for more suggestions.  Please note that you may send your suggestions (if you have not already on the form) via e-mail at [email protected] or talk to one of our representatives during our meetings.  Suggestions are what keep us improving for you.

Presentation:

Do you know something about the Chinese culture or China that you want to share?  Or perhaps, would you like to practise your research and presentation skills?  In any case, we encourage you to explore any topic related to the Chinese culture or China and share it with other members during our club meeting(s).  When you decided what you would like to present about, simple talk to one of our representatives or send an e-mail to [email protected] and arrange a meeting to present and make available your presentation equipment as needed.  Please note that the school or our members has equipment such as computer(s), projector, television, overhead, etc.  However, please let us know as soon as possible (at least a week ahead) so we can make necessary arrangements to have them available for you. There is no charge for these services.  Again, we would like to thank Nima Baratzaden for taking the lead and efforts in working on the Chinese politics presentation for us during our up-coming meeting.

Thank you for your kind attention.  We hope you all had a wonderful holiday and we look forward in seeing you at our next meeting, this Thursday, January 8, 2004 at room 218.

Yours sincerely,

Chinese Cultural Club  (Edward Choi, Simon Wong & Johnson Tse)
