Toroids come fully fabricated, and that includes the pesky tinning . To be specific, I tin each lead slightly up onto the core with the intention of minimizing the problems a builder could have with their installation. Thanks for asking! Yes! These will be toroids that you can drop right onto the PC board. 73, Wayne N6KR ++++++++++++++++++ Date: Fri, 22 Mar 2002 15:43:58 -0700 From: "Tim Ellam" To: Subject: [Elecraft] The Toroid Guy I'll be the first to admit my building skills are less than stellar and I = seem to lack the dexterity necessary to wind those darn toroids. Got the K1-4 and antenna tuner. Decided to let Mychael AA3WF ( The Toroid Guy ) save me some time and grief. Probably my best move in years. They got here the same day the kit arrived. All nice and neat, in little envelopes marked with their board and part designation. All wound, tinned ad ready to solder in. Ya couldn't make a neater toroid with an Acme Toroid-O-Matic machine. Everything went in, worked fine and I didn't have to swear at any knots, kinks, or cores that rolled under the bench. I'll give them a thumbs-up with all ten of my thumbs 73 / 72 Bob WB8CAC P.S. Only problem building the radio was an open in the circuit board run between the driver and final, took a bit to find. Otherwise very happy with all 1 of the contacts I've made. +++++++++++++++++ Reply-To: giantbug@earthlink.net From: "Mychael Morohovich / AA3WF" To: "elecraft" Date: Fri, 5 Apr 2002 7:41:48 -0500 Subject: [Elecraft] Prewound Toroids I have been getting a good number of inquiries from builders concerning whether or not my services include stripping and tinning the toroids I supply. The answer to this is, "Yes. All toroids come wound, stripped ,and tinned- completely ready to be dropped into your PCB." The other point I would like to clarify is that it is not necessary to send me your supplies. The entirety of my cores and wire are purchased either directly from or through Elecraft or their approved suppliers. Your kit-supplied materials might come in handy on a future project. Also, if for any reason a toroid would need to be removed, it would probably have to be rewound unless the leads were kept uncharacteristically long. So far, the response to my services has been great. Thanks!! Hi folks - I think I've used Mychael aka the Toroid Guy (see Elecraft website) 4 times now and his service creates the same response you get when you work with Elecraft - you want to tell people THIS SERVICE IS GREAT! My last job was a "custom" job for a project I am working on - lots of very small toroids with lots of windings. Well they came in the mail today (VERY speedy turn around) and they are wound and tinned SUPERBLY. Mychael is a really pleasent guy to work with and has a good sense of humor. Yes, I can and have wound toroids - but I only have so much time - and using Mychael saves me lots of time. For those of you would like to save time I guarantee you will not be disapointed by the speed, quality, and responsiveness of Mychael's business. He's great! OK Mychael - you owe me a beer hi hi (just kidding - my only affiliation with Mychael is that I pay him to help me)!!! 73/Tim NZ7C +++++++++++++++++ From: "Carl J. He does excellent work at a reasonable price. He wound my K2 toroids for me, and also the toroids for an LDG Z11 antenna tuner kit. As long as he has the appropriate information from a construction manual or other source, he will do custom work of this sort -- and, he does it well and very quickly. Two or three day turnaround is typical. He also emails you to make sure his shipments arrive in time and in good shape. He's very professional. If you want to save time in your kit construction, I also highly recommend his services for Elecraft kits or any custom work you might need. Mychael is a very honorable ham in the best tradition of amateur radio! 73 Carl -- N8VZ -- Carl J. Denbow, n8vz@fptoday.com on 01/06/2003 ++++++++++++++++++
