You need to replace the cruddy JRC 8V regulator that feeds the VFO. It was found that the regulators shipped with some of the early club kits had a regulation problem which causes some to chirp a bit. 2. You can set the TX so that it has any offset you would like. Simply follow the procedure set out in the manual. If you haven't got a manual, let me know and I'll send you a pdf of it. 3. The manual has the TiCK 1.0 command list in it. If the one you purchased has a "superTiCK" keyer, you will have to get the command list from Embedded Research. Their website is http://www.embres.com 4. You may like to do some of the other mods that have come up for this rig too. Some are on the Red Hot Radio website at: http://www.redhotradio.com/NC20_Mods.html I also did some mods later on that improved the receiver's performance somewhat, after the Adventure Radio Society did a review of the rig they had built up from a Red Hot Radio kit. These are at: http://www.natworld.com/ars/pages/back_issues/2000_text/0600_text/nc20_final .html (this URL probably goes over two lines - you will need to copy and paste the whole thing into the address box of your web browser) 5. One last thing - it most likely pay you to replace the FETs in the RIT circuit and the RX audio MUTE circuit with some nice new 2N5457 devices. BTW, how much did you get the rig for (just interested)? Let me/us know how you get on or if you need more help. The NorCal 20 rig that you have came to you courtesy of one of the NorCal QRP Club (of Northern California) members/customers who bought an NC-20 kit from the club about 3 years ago. I designed the kit for the NorCal club who sold 500 of them to their members and others. Each kit buyer paid a bit more than it cost in materials for their kit so that for each one we sold, we were able to make another kit free to give away as a gift to those more needy than ourselves. This was only possible due to the superb scrounging and bargaining skills of our esteemed friend Doug Hendricks, KI6DS and to some wonderful donations and price breaks from some vendors and other QRP'ers. The 500 rigs that we were able to give away have all been shipped worldwide by our good friends in the G-QRP club in England. They have good connections around the world and have done a great job disseminating the kits/built and tested rigs to the people who need them.
