++++++++++++++++++++ From: Radioham Subject: [Elecraft] Yaesu FT-100 Knobs Thank you all for your help with this. I called Yaesu/Vertex today and they confirmed they have the knobs in stock and that the rubber rings should be arriving next week. I placed an order and the whole thing, with shipping, comes to about $16 and change. If you want one in the near future, now is the window of opportunity. The phone number is 562-404-2700 and the parts are Ft-100 main VFO knob - RA006800B ($8.87ea) and RA0068200 ($4.06ea) plus shipping ($4.00 minimum). They take plastic. They said there is a run on these because of some QRP radio kit :-). I sure hope this works out well. Those who have them seem to like them. I do like the tactile feel of my FT-840 knob better than the K-2 knob. I'll be waiting to see if they arrive and will report back to the list. 72/73, Steve, N4EUK Reston, VA ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Date: Thu, 28 Dec 2000 12:07:20 -0500 From: Radioham Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Main tuning knobs, K1 & K2 No negotiating with Yaesu - they either have it - or not. Took about a month for me to get it after calling. And a very large thank you to the kind soul who explained that I had to remove a small plastic pin from the center of the knob in order to get it to fully fit on - duh, sometimes I amaze even myself. Now is looks like it came with the rig. 72/73, Steve, N4EUK +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ << My "stock" knob also wobbles. I think maybe the encoder shaft is a little less than 1/4 in. and/or the knob hole is a little larger than 1/4 in. >> Someone said the knob is 1/4" and the pot shaft is 6mm. If that's true you need a shim about .006" thick wrapped around the shaft opposite the set screw(s). The subscription cards and business reply cards that fall out of magazines are about the right thickness. So is my QSL card for those of you lucky enough to have one ;-) Date: Fri, 16 Feb 2001 20:55:50 -0500 From: Radioham Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Knobbage - Wobbleage? No wobbleage here. If you pull out the little center piece of plastic from the FT-100 knob and careful tighten the set screws, it turns almost perfectly. I use a piece of felt behind it for drag, so you can't freewheel it, but I don't want to do that anyway. 72/73, Steve, N4EUK - --- Date: Fri, 16 Feb 2001 15:46:12 -0800 From: Eric Swartz WA6HHQ - Elecraft Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Knobbage - Wobbleage? Actually, the metal encoder shaft on the K2 is the 6 mm standard (Not 1/4") used in the rest of the world and on all of the JA rigs. The FT-100 knob is also designed for a 6 mm shaft. One note though, if you do not break off the small plastic tab inside the mounting hole on the FT-100 know it will not fully slide on the K2's encoder shaft. (Use a small screwdriver inserted into the shaft hole to snap it off.) The K2's VFO rotary encoder is a high quality (as in 'expensive') unit with the metal shaft supported by ball bearings. It is designed for high speed operation in automated environments and is quite smooth and stable. Another thought, if the set screws on the FT100 knob, or the K2 stock knob are over tightened they can deform the knob slightly, causing it to be out of round. By carefully tightening the two screws on my stock K2 knob I can get it to be pretty close to perfect as I rotate it. Of course, this will vary slightly from knob to knob due to injection molding differences. I suspect the FT100 knob has the same issues. 73, Eric +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ From: "Don Brown" To: , Subject: Re: [Elecraft] FT-100 knob Date: Thu, 7 Nov 2002 12:48:06 -0600 Hi I haven't put one of these knobs on, but as I remember you need to break off a little tab to get it to fit. At least that was the discussion about a year ago.
