++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Date: Wed, 20 Jun 2001 11:09:49 -0700 From: "Eric Swartz - WA6HHQ, Elecraft" Subject: [Elecraft] K2 Remote and K2 Voice Software We have added a download and description page for our upcoming 'K2 Remote' and 'K2 Voice' programs at: http://www.elecraft.com/k2_remote.htm (There is also a link to this page at the top of our main page and the bottom of the KIO2 page.) This page also includes a screen shot of the current K2 remote program. 73, Eric WA6HHQ - ---------- Here is the text from the page: K2 Remote and K2 Voice Status (6/20/01): Both K2 Remote and K2 Voice are in final development. We will be releasing early alpha test versions of both programs on this page between now and the end of next week (6/29). New versions will be made available for download here as they are released. K2 Remote K2 Remote is a new remote control program designed for the K2 that runs under Windows (95,98, 2000 & ME). It requires the KIO2 RS-232 control option for the K2 to operate. It is included via this page as part of our KIO2 option. New versions will be available here for download at no additional charge as we add features to K2 Remote. K2 Remote operates in one of two modes: Direct control of the K2 from a local PC via RS-232 and remote control using two PCs: one at the radio running a small server program (K2 Server, which comes with K2 remote) and a remote PC (laptop etc.) running K2 remote and communicating with the K2 server program via TCP/IP protocol. This allows full remote control of the K2 via a local home network or even via the Internet. (WA6HHQ runs K2 remote via his wireless 802.11 home network - working DX while eating breakfast...) Audio to/from the K2 can be routed over the TCP/IP network using any of several widely available programs, including Microsoft's Netmeeting program (included with newer Windows systems.) We will be testing routing the audio over the network with Netmeeting shortly and will post our notes on this page. 9For local use we have also run the audio over VHF/UHF radios.) K2 Remote is a work in progress - we welcome your suggestions! Please click here (mailto: eric at elecraft.com)to send us you ideas and comments. Include the words K2 Remote in the subject to make it easier for us to quickly spot it. K2 Voice K2 Voice is a complete voice feedback program for the K2. It runs under Windows (95,98, 2000 & ME). It requires the KIO2 RS-232 control option for the K2 to operate. It is included via this page as part of our KIO2 option. New versions will be available here for download at no additional charge as we add features Our goal with K2 Voice is to make the K2 fully operational for hams who are unable to see the normal K2 controls and displays. It will report just about everything that happens on the K2 using the soundcard in your PC. K2 Voice reports the K2's frequency, mode, filter selections, split, VFO a/b etc. and even the internal menu displays via your PC's sound card. K2 Voice operates in one of three modes: Fully automatic: All button presses and frequency changes made on the K2 are automatically reported within one second of completion. VFO frequency changes are reported after tuning has stopped for one second. Semi Automatic: Same as above except the VFO is not automatically reported. Press a key to get the current VFO frequency. Manual: Press a key for each function to be reported. for example, press ALT- F to get the current frequency, ALT-M to get the current mode etc. K2 Voice is a work in progress - we welcome your suggestions! I've put the beta for K2_Voice V1.0 on the web site on the K2 Remote / K2 Voice page at: http://www.elecraft.com/k2_remote.htm The links are at the bottom of the page. This is an early beta test release. Please email me your comments with 'K2 Voice' included in the subject line. I've tested on W98 and W2000 here. I'd especially appreciate feedback from those of you running Win-ME and W95. Also, for those who were asking about source for K2 Voice - I'll post it as soon as we get past the beta test release as an example of a VB app for the K2. 73, Eric WA6HHQ eric at elecraft.com +++++++++++++++++++++++++ Date: Tue, 10 Jul 2001 10:56:01 -0700 From: Eric Swartz WA6HHQ - Elecraft Subject: [Elecraft] K2 Voice Available (Round Two) We have fixed the install problem with our K2 Voice program (we hope!) Install Shield has given us a temporary work around for installing K2 Voice on W95/98 and NT systems. (W2000 systems installed it OK.) It is now available for free download at: http://www.elecraft.com/k2_remote.htm K2 Voice provides detailed voice feedback for K2 users who can not easily see its display. It runs on a PC connected to the K2 via RS-232 and requires the KIO2 option for the K2. 73, Eric WA6HHQ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Date: Fri, 13 Jul 2001 17:10:36 -0700 From: Eric Swartz WA6HHQ - Elecraft Subject: [Elecraft] Final K2 Voice Download Problem Resolved We have updated the K2_Voice (for the KIO2) download instructions at: http://www.elecraft.com/k2_remote.htm It turns out Netscape has a download bug where it can corrupt some file types. In our case it was corrupting our K2Voice105a.msi install file! The fix is to use Microsoft Explorer or another browser to download the file. Below is a copy of our updated download instructions: 73, Eric WA6HHQ ================= Update: 7/13 1:17 PM PDT: Install Shield has given us a work around for installing K2 Voice on W95/98 and NT systems. These users should first download the Microsoft Installer below to a temp directory and run it to install it on their system. Then download the K2voice ".msi" installation program below. (To save these files, rather than running them directly from the web site, you may need to right click on their links and then chose the "Save Link As" option for Netscape, or the "Save Target As" option from Microsoft Explorer.) Run 'K2voice105a.msi' to install K2 Voice. (Run these downloaded programs by double clicking on them or using the RUN option from the Windows Start menu.) Note: You may get an error message when you try to run K2Voice105a.msi. ("This installation package could not be opened. Contact application vendor to verify this is a valid Windows installation package.") We have found this is due to a download problem in some versions of Netscape where they corrupt the .msi file download. The proper file size after download is 2189 KB. Corrupted downloads we have made with Netscape communicator 4.77 came out as 2197 KB. If you experience this error, please delete the bad download .msi file and try downloading it with Microsoft explorer or another browser. If you still experience problems please email eric at elecraft.com immediately. Once the Microsoft Installer has been set up on your machine it is not necessary to reload it for future K2 Voice releases. (W2000 systems already have this installer and only need to download K2 Voice V1.05a.) This installer adds repair-ability to programs it installs and also handles the uninstall process correctly. +++++++++++++++++++++++++ Date: Fri, 20 Jul 2001 17:35:05 -0100 From: "Julian, G4ILO" Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K2 Rev 2.01 FW Couldn't you record some CW as WAV files, and substitute them for the voice ones? I don't know what language K2 Voice is written in, but if anyone wanted to incorporate the facility into the program there is a Delphi program for generating CW on my web page, together with its source code... - -- Julian, G4ILO. It was scary at first but after a while it was almost mesmerizing listening to Eric's sonorous voice intoning the various button presses and VFO settings. I couldn't stop pressing buttons or twirling the VFO. As mellifluous as Eric's voice is it would be nice to have CW. Here's an idea: How about getting celebrity hams to do voices? Maybe Elecraft could make Marlon Brando a deal he couldn't refuse. It allows K2 Voice to be installed to a different drive or directory than the default. See: http://www.elecraft.com/k2_remote.htm (These new installs were built under Install Shield's latest code release, which is supposed to correct their earlier problems. Please let me know if you still have any problems installing.) K2 Remote is in test and should be up there next week. 73, Eric WA6HHQ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Date: Mon, 31 Mar 2003 09:02:52 -0800 From: Eric Swartz WA6HHQ - Elecraft Organization: Elecraft To: john cooper Cc: elecraft at mailman.qth.net Subject: [Elecraft] Re: K2 Voice and Remote location on Elecraft site?
