I must be doing something wrong as I can't adjust the freq." The XIT only affects the transmit frequency. You press XIT, adjust the control for the offset you want, and you should see your display change when you hit the key showing the new transmit frequency. Have you used the SPLIT function for this? I find it more convenient than the XIT/RIT functions and I get to do all of my tuning with the Main tuning knob. If you haven't, here's what I do. Press and hold Split to go to split mode. The cursor above the A or B vfo will be blinking. Press A/B to select the A vfo if you are on B. Tune in the signal you want to receive. Hit A=B. That moves the B vfo exactly onto the receive frequency. If you were going to call on your receive frequency, you are all ready to go. When you hit the key, the K2 switches to the B VFO. Each time you release the key you are back on the A vfo for receiving. You can adjust the tuning in receive on the A vfo all you want without affecting your transmit frequency on bit. For DX and Foxes listening off-frequency, it is simple to set exactly the transmit offset that you want. First you tune in the station using the A VFO A=B to bring the B vfo onto the same frequency just like before. Now you hit A/B to select the B vfo and tune the main tuning to the frequency you want to transmit on. If you are trying to 'tail end' the current station working him, just tune that station in 'zero beat'. Then hit A/B to take you back to the A vfo and you are all ready to go. You are now listening on the DX/Fox station's frequency and all ready to transmit on the other frequency you selected when you hit the key. The display will show the transmit frequency while you are sending. The display doesn't switch back for almost a second after you stop sending, but the K2 is switching back and forth between each dit and dah in full QSK. The signals you hear between the characters are on your receive frequency, so the Split does not interfere with the full QSK operation, even though the frequency display shows a slight lag. I run "Split" all the time, even in casual rag chewing, so I can twiddle the receive frequency with the main dial while listening without moving the transmit frequency. I avoid RIT quite easily - I just operate in SPLIT all the time. That way my receive tuning is always done using the comfortable "big" knob. When I find a frequency I want to transmit on (such as after zero beating a fellow calling CQ), I just punch A=B and my transmitter is on the same frequency. Then I can continue tuning the receiver using the main tuning knob and the transmitter frequency (set by the other VFO) stays right where it put it. Working DX using split, I find him, hit A=B to bring the other vfo on his frequency, then hit A/B to move to the other vfo and tune up to a clear spot to call him. Hit A/B again to switch back to the VFO listening on his frequency and I'm already to go. Any time I want to listen to my transmit frequency I just hold A/B a moment to 'peek' at the other frequency and be sure it is still clear. If you HOLD the A/B button, it will switch to the over vfo, then revert automatically to the original vfo when you release it. For many years as a Ham I used separate transmitters and receivers and grew used to changing the transmitter frequency independently of the receiver. The K2 works exactly this way in SPLIT, so it is very intuitive for me. OTOH, the process of using RIT on top of XIT on top of a "main tuning" has always seemed a bit weird - AND I like tuning always with the nice big knob. On your Secondary Menu, change SPLIT to "nor". The documentation fails to note that "nor" mode not only causes your "Split" choices to apply to ALL bands, but also defaults to no Split on power up. Split used to default to "OFF" upon power up regardless. That was a pain for those of us who run ONLY "split" mode, since we'd fiddle with the receive tuning during a QSO only to discover that we "lost" the station because we moved the Tx frequency. By selecting SPLIT "per" it remembers the choices for EACH band AND remembers those settings upon power-up. I run SPLIT at all times, and routinely punch A=B to put my transmitter on the receive frequency just before initiating a call, then I can use the main tuning knob for adjusting my receive frequency during a QSO and forget about the RIT/XIT functions (and ignore that tiny little knob). Ron AC7AC K2 # 1289 -----Original Message----- I tapped yesterday evening in a bad situation. I changed from 40m to 80m. On 40m Split was enabled and I forgot to switch it off, so my transmission was on the last used split QRG. Would it be not better if the software switch off split mode if one change to another band? I dont see a advantage to let split enabled if I switch to another band. 73 de Wolf, DL2WRJ +++++++++++++++++++
